Reviews On Madbid
Madbid has taken the whole concept of online auction by storm – this whole idea of paying for your bids not only restricts people from putting in bids, it allows people to get stuff for great prices… Or so they say. So does it really work as they say it does? Is it really as it is said to be (and all the hype about it portrays it to be)?
Well, I had a go at it myself recently, so I’ll try to give you an honest account of the good & bad of this new auction site. In all the other reviews on madbid you may have come across, I don’t know what you have found. But hopefully this will help you to make your own decision on whether the site does live up to all the hype.
So here goes nothing!
The Site
It has been about 3/4 weeks that I came across Madbid. My first impression was that it was quite user-friendly and had an attractive interface. Here’s what the homepage looks like:
How Does MadBid Work?
You might have come across Penny Auction sites before. If you haven’t, it’s a simple concept – it is a regular auction site, with the only difference being that every item has a time limit on it. Every time someone places a bid, the timer resets itself and the price of the item goes up by 1pence (thus the name ‘Penny Auction’).
MadBid is basically a ‘Penny Auction’ site.
For example, let’s say that MadBid put an iphone up for auction (those are my favourite kinds btw!). It may start off with a time limit of 2 minutes and a price of 1p.
After 50 seconds someone may place a bid, the price would then go up to 2p and the timer would reset to 2 minutes. To put it simply, the auction ends when the timer reaches zero (0) and the last person who placed a bid will be the winner.
Madbid though has an added feature, as my Reviews On Madbid will reveal. By the way, this is one of the features of Madbid that I like a lot, & you’ll see why. Over the length of the auction’s time, the auction timer goes down to just 10 seconds. So basically that iphone that you were bidding on or watching, say it reached a certain amount (let’s say £13.47), then the timer would be reduced down to about 50 or so seconds instead of the whole 2 minutes, and this will continue to happen until the timer is set to only 10 seconds, i.e. people will have only 10 seconds to put in a bid.
Does madbid work?
When I registered, I fully expected to win some great stuff for amazing prices. But I have to say that it didn’t quite work like that. What I overtime realised (after losing a significant amount of my credits) is that you have to plan your action over there to make the most of it. Once I realised that, it got much better to use this site. Bargains are indeed available, as long as you know how to plan your game and approach the whole thing diligently. So to the question does madbid work, I’ll have to say yes it does. You just have to know what you are doing. Don’t worry though, I’ve got you covered on that front. Have a look at my post on madbid tips to get some great pointers on how to make the most of this site.
The Things I Liked
Well, as I mentioned earlier, I quite like their whole timer feature whereby they gradually decrease the amount of countdown time to 10 seconds.
I liked their interface – it’s quite attractive and user-friendly.
The thing I liked the most is the ability to win items at amazing prices. I’ll tell you, it’s an amazing feeling when you win an iphone 4 for £26… Here are some more examples of the sort of deals you can get there…
Things I didn’t Like
The thing that I didn’t like the most is the cap they have on the number of items you can win in a week. If I remember correctly, you can win about 4 items a week, and not more. That is a really annoying feature I must say, but probably makes sense, as otherwise only the people who’ve mastered the site would be winning stuff…
Suggestions
I’ve put a much more elaborate guide to help you make the most of this site at my madbid tips post, but here are a few pointers to get you started.
- Do not enter bidding wars with more than 1 other bidder
- Look for auctions with a time of 20 seconds or less
- Always bid in the last 2-3 seconds of an auction
- Try and bid at non-peak times (e.g. weekday mornings and afternoons)
I’d highly recommend you to have a read of my tips post to help you make the most of your time at Madbid. But whatever you do, you should definitely check out the site. To help you on your way, you’ll even get 2 free credits to start off.
